Application of IOT Devices in Oil Fields

Ina manages a large number of pump jacks used for hydrocarbon extraction in oil fields. These pump jacks are unmanned, and their operation is primarily monitored by periodically visiting operators who record their status and whether they are functioning properly. Due to the high number of pump jacks and their remote locations, several days can pass between a malfunction and the arrival of an operator, making it difficult to pinpoint the exact moment of failure. In such situations, problems arise in calculating the produced fluid quantities from the wells and accurately allocating the total fluid production on the field to individual wells.

By integrating simple IoT devices into the control power cabinet of the pump jack, which can wirelessly transmit information about the pump jack’s activity to a central location (web platform/dashboard), this issue is completely resolved, optimizing and simplifying operations in the oil field.

Advantages of implementing IoT solutions:

  • Rapid pump jack status overview.
  • A web dashboard with a user-friendly user interface.
  • Real-time data monitoring.
  • Battery-powered (5-6 years lifespan) – no need for external power supply.
  • Low operating costs.
  • Time savings.
  • Alerts on status changes.
